La brocante, a long story
At first, arcenciel would receive lots of used furniture which would be distributed for free to war veterans who were displaced and returned home to Dammour. This service targeted mainly new couples by helping to furnish their houses so as to encourage people to repopulate the area.
With donations becoming more and more abundant, the idea to make a brocante second hand store was undertaken in order to profit the disenfranchised and to participate in aiding sustainable development. Objects are restored and sold to collectors or anyone who is interested in vintage furniture.

  • objects in need of restoration
  • objects in need of transformation
  • objects to be recycled

Re-sell

Antiquing is a pleasurable experience which should be completed by restoring the acquired antique objects, sometimes inexpensive due to their poor state. The aesthetic profit of a good restoration solicits a solid investment. arcenciel proposes giving a second life to your burden objects by handing them to a restoration center for a full restoration or complete transformation in order to sell them and generate revenues for the different arcenciel centers and programs.

How does the brocante contribute to the arcenciel mission?

Three arcenciel programs are united within a single process:

Environment:
  • recycling materials and furniture or re-using refuse
  • the recuperation of objects and their eventual restoration contributes to conservation and waste reduction, this provides and acts as a base for sustaining an ecological conscience
Employment
  • La brocante helps to create jobs for disabled and disadvantaged people within restoration and production workshops, and in distribution centers. Employment demands are focused around positions such as drivers, physical laborers, decorators, carpenters, and of course sellers and buyers.
Social
  • The brocante is a meeting place where people, from all kinds of social, religious or political backgrounds can meet
  • It contributes to the development of society by encouraging disenfranchised people to become the masters of their own development. This is achieved by the acquisition of financial independence which is a consequence of having a profession and becoming reintegrated into society.
