The national Energy Globe Award 2014
Beirut, 17 September 2014 - arcenciel gets the national award « Energy Globe » for Lebanon for its environmental project rolling caps “bouchons roulants".
The commercial Counselor for Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq of Austria Advantage, Ms. Isabel Schmiedbauer, and Mr. Sayed Karam, commercial consultant in Lebanon, presented the award to the CEO of arcenciel, Mr. Pierre Issa in the NGO premises in Jisr el Bacha. The aim of this Austrian initiative is to draw attention on sustainable development projects and raise awareness on the preservation of natural resources. "As soon as I learnt about the project « bouchons roulants » with arcenciel says Ms. Schmiedbauer, the first thing that came to my mind is that it is simple, but great! It's easy to explain and it mobilizes the entire Lebanese society, through a well thought project strategy and combination of socio-cultural, environmental and economic aspects making the project sustainable".
On behalf of the volunteers of the association, Mr. Issa, thanked the Energy Globe Foundation and its partner Advantage Austria for this price considered one of the most prestigious awards in the environment domain. "Receiving an award from Austria comforts us and assures us that we are on the right track. For those who do not know, our association doesn’t benefit from a superstructure to support its projects; and we do not depend on any religious community, political party, western country or international organization. arcenciel is completely autonomous and independent, and this prestigious Austrian award increases its credibility”, said Mr. Issa.
arcenciel is currently campaigning to urge actors to raise awareness on the sorting of waste at source, the cleaning of public spaces, the collection, sorting and secondary recovery of recyclables and organic waste. The ideal situation would be to adopt the strategy of « exchanging » bottles caps against a wheelchair or a crutch and adapt it to the public sector; collected waste could then be "swapped" against a photovoltaic streetlight, the rehabilitation of a public park, the establishment of an irrigation system or a solar pump to power homes in villages.
