Damour – 2003

History

Towards the end of his life, a man from the region of Damour entrusts his family with land which bore an unfinished building of three floors, with intentions to make a center for charity. After much discussion, the beneficiaries approached arcenciel and put forward the use of the inherited property for a period of 25 years with the aim of making a social center concentrating on the inhabitants of Damour. The contract was officially signed between arcenciel and the beneficiaries on September, 2003.

The idea was to bring back the people who had fled the village after the massacre of 1976 and have them work on site. Work on the building was done by laborers from Damour and its surrounding areas, in respect to the institutional image of arcenciel. The association has always intended that center employees be residents of the Damour area and its vicinity.
