Kab Elias - 2004

History

In response to the troubles faced in the Lebanese agriculture and to reduce rural migration, arcenciel decided to improve the living conditions of farmers participating in the development of the country's agricultural potential.

With collaboration from farmers in the region, arcenciel has launched an agricultural program funded by the Spanish association FPSC. Its purpose is to increase the profitability of agriculture by reducing production costs while increasing revenues and production.

Facilites and activities 
arcenciel has initiated several activities, including the recruitment of agricultural engineers and trainees, the renovation and reinforcement of the older Kab Elias cooperation.

Training – Awareness
Encourage farmers to adopt a profitable business

Laboratories
Soil analysis for appropriate prescription of pesticides and fertilizers in respect to international standards in order to export produce

Equipment rental
More efficient and innovative equipment were made ​​available to farmers; rented out for special prices to members of the cooperation

Future prospects
• Reinforce the skills of farmers and improve capacity management of the cooperative
• Rationalize operations to match production of market demands
• Improve the marketing of agricultural products to provide choice and value
• Implantation of a national center for research and development which works under international standards in Beirut
