Rooftop Vegetable Garden
The German Ambassador in Lebanon H.E. Birgitta Maria Siefker-Eberle, visited arcenciel center in Jisr el Bacha, Sin el Fil – Beirut, on Friday March 22, 2013 to know more about the "Rooftop Vegetable Garden" project, funded by the German Embassy in Lebanon.
The project consists of installing pots across the surface of arcenciel's roof, a previously unoccupied space, aiming to turn it into a garden where 10 varieties of fruits and vegetables are planted (cherry tomatoes, 3 types of lettuce, parsley, mint, green onion, thyme, cucumber, and zucchini ). The products will be sold in local markets and the revenue collected will provide service to a disabled person, ensuring better integration into society.
After visiting the roof, attendees were invited to the cafeteria to taste 'homemade' saj pastry and other products derived from the rooftop vegetable garden. The Ambassador said she was pleased with this pilot project results and satisfied with the Embassy’s collaborations with arcenciel.
