The Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon

Till the 20th of February 2014, around 2,500,000 Syrian refugees had fled in the neighboring countries of Syria, based on the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).

For example, 89,250 asylum applications were submitted by Syrian refugees, in 27 European countries [1]; these 89,250 persons account for only 3,6% of  Syrian refugees outside their country.

Furthermore, two countries – Germany and Sweden – have recorded alone 54% of these applications. France and its 1,975 applications only represents 2,2% of applications submitted in Europe. 

Lebanon holds the first position with 935,000 refugees, based on the UNHCR [2] having on his own 37% of the refugees in the neighboring countries: 

We count 4,429,000 Lebanese in 2013, these 935,000 Syrian refugees represent a 21.1% increase of the population in Lebanon. 

193,093 Syrians had registered at the UNHCR by February 20, 2013, against 886,085 a year later.
It represents an increase of 458.9% in just one year

To these refugees already registered at the UNHCR, we should add 48,810 people waiting for registration. Refugees must now wait 21 days on average before having their appointment with the UNHCR. In addition to this, they will have to wait at least a month [3] before receiving any kind of support from the main help provider and coordinator of refugees. 

On the 31st of December 2013, the UNHCR had only received 71% of the 2,981,640,112 crucial in order to finance its activities in Lebanonand take in charge all Syrian refugees registered in Lebanon. Therefore 862,867,169 $ are still left to find.

Until the 1st of October 2013, the UNHCR provided massive aid and wit no distinction. Because of this lack of funding, the UNHCR had to restrict its help and provide a "targeted assistance" to the most critical cases. Nearly 200,000 refugees then saw their food aid cut [4].
